As the editor-in-chief of Prevention Magazine Health Books, Bill Gottlieb created the 10-million copy self-care bestseller, The Doctors Book of Home Remedies, and was the author of the 1.5 million copy alternative health bestseller, New Choices in Natural Healing. Now, Bill has once again created a groundbreaking booka book that can help anyone safely, successfully and naturally self-treat 160 everyday and serious health conditions: Alternative Cures. To write this unique book, Bill interviewed over 300 of America's top natural cliniciansdoctors, herbalists, nutritionists and more. You'll discover over 1000 of their most effective, practical and safest natural remedies for an A-to-Z of health problems, from arthritis, back pain and high cholesterol, to repetitive strain injury, weight gain and yeast infections. Plus, every chapter of Alternative Cures has a guide to the best alternative and conventional professional care for the condition it covers. And, you'll find essential safety information for every remedy featured in the book. Once you look at it, we think you'll agree: There's never been a more useful, reader-friendly, get-better book about alternative health and healing than Alternative Cures. Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Review Pick an ailment--any ailment--and chances are, Bill Gottlieb can succinctly crystallize the problem, propose its root cause, and describe a handful of nonmedical remedies for treatment. Creator and supervising editor of the bestselling Doctors Book of Home Remedies, this 25-year veteran of the health field draws from more than 300 alternative care practitioners (including holistic nutritionists, licensed acupuncturists, massage therapists, and the occasional swami) to present a thick textbook worthy of gracing the reference shelf of any family or health provider. Serious physical ailments like asthma, HIV and AIDS, stroke, and cancer receive equal attention with pesky afflictions like oily hair, acne, nightmares, and wrinkles. Mental health ailments, such as guilt, anxiety, grief, and shyness, also get their due. Gottlieb's stance is not that individuals should shun their primary care physicians to rely solely on herbs, better nutrition, and other alternative paths. Rather, he seeks to educate readers on the biological effects of such practices and tinctures, to share their documented benefits in helpful detail. Each ailment receives a sidebar titled Guide to Professional Care, in which Gottlieb outlines symptoms that warrant immediate medical attention. Other sidebars highlight especially helpful treatment--from aromatherapy to meditation--for various troubles. Gottlieb provides an section on alternative healing where he elaborates on the process, benefits, and safety of each general treatment referred to in the book (from acupuncture to yoga therapy). Complete information, an engaging writing style, and visually appealing graphics make this encyclopedia-style book very easy to digest. --Liane Thomas Review Alternative Cures is a valuable resource of alternative and integrated medicines--a great mixture of therapies from excellent expert clinicians makes it an essential book for your health library. -Elson M. Haas, M.D., author of seven books, including The False Diet and The Staying Healthy Shopper's Guide From the Inside Flap Alternative Cures The Most Effective Natural Home Remedies for 160 Health Problems Welcome to Alternative Cures, the most complete, up-to-date, and effective compendium of natural remedies every collected in one resource. Unlike most books on alternative healing, which feature the perspective of just one expert and discuss just one problem, Alternative Cures features the expertise of 300 practitioners of alternative care and provides natural home remedies for 160 health problems. If you're tired of taking medications that never really solve your health problem (and deliver body-hurting side effects in the bargain), and if you want the best advice on which natural remedies to use, this is the book for you. And don't worry about safety. For every problem discussed, you'll find information on when professional care is a must. There's also a complete guide to the possible side effects of natural remedies and how to avoid them. In the pages of this book, you'll meet hundreds of experienced natural clinicians eager to help you with your problem. Here's just a small sample. The doctor from Virginia who cured his own chronic fatigue--and recommends two nutrients that he says make all the difference in solving the problem. The chiropractor from California who tells you a simple exercise that can immediately relieve back pain--and stop in from recurring. The doctor from Florida who gives his patients with angina a super-powerful (but litte-known) form of vitamin E that he says virtually eliminates the risk of a heart attack. The herbalist from New York who says that taking just the right amount of one herb can immediately stop menstrual cramps--and can often cure cramping in just 3 months. The nutrition specialist from Montana who recommends that her clients take a special supplement that stops the storage of fat, allowing them to lose 10 or more pounds--by doing nothing more than this natural pill! Those are just five of the remarkable home remedies in Alternative Cures--and there are hundreds more! It's like having your own team of expert natural healers on call 24 hours a day. Enjoy it in good (and better!) health. Product information

What does the Book Condition Very Good mean? Good? Fair?
See our descriptions of book descriptions here: book's conditions.
What does ffep stand for?
Front-facing endpaper - the first page of a book inside the cover. This page is typically blank. Often people will write their name on this page at the top, or a gift message - which is why you will see ‘owner’s name on ffep’ in some of our book descriptions.
What does dj stand for?
Dust Jacket - the outer paper wrapping on a hardback book. If we mention a book is ’No dj’ this means it should have a dust jacket but it is missing.
What is foxing?
Foxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning on old books. The causes of foxing are not well understood, but high humidity may contribute to to foxing.
Foxing - Wikipedia
What is tanning?
Age tanning, or browning, occurs over time on the pages of books. This process can show up on just the edges of pages, when this occurs it is sometimes referred to as "edge tanning." This kind of deterioration is commonly seen in books printed before the advent of acid-free paper in the 1980s.
r/BookCollecting - Is this mold or normal aging for a well used book?

Where do you get your books from?
We buy books from the public and also take donations. We travel regularly around the Wellington/Manawatu region, and will go further afield to collect larger quantities in our big van. We also like to go to book fairs and other charity events and buy books that catch our eye.
Are your photos of the actual books being sold?
It depends - we have sometimes used stock images for very common books but are in the process of photographing our entire inventory. This will take awhile to finish! If we have 10 copies of the Da Vinci code all in Very Good condition, we will just photograph one and use that to represent all 10 in stock. However if the next copy of worn and only in Fair condition, we will photograph that separately and create a new listing for it.
What is the most expensive book you have sold?
To date it was a first edition first printing copy of JRR Tolkien’s The Two Towers. It was in very poor condition but still was worth over NZ$1000.
What is your favourite book to sell?
I love seeing anything written by Stephen King - they just do not stay in our inventory for very long before someone spots it and buys it. And Alison Holst’s book on muffins will not stay in inventory very long either - too cheap at $7 maybe?
Why do you also sell mailing supplies?
We had a lot of trouble sourcing the right sort of bubble mailer to send our books out in, and eventually found a supplier of high quality mailers in China to import them from. We figured other sellers of small items in New Zealand might like to also use them.
Are you open to the public?
Unfortunately our books are all stored in a large warehouse in boxes so they are not easily browsable. The SKU number for a book tells us where to find it in the warehouse, but there is absolutely no order to where things are stored! We do allow pickups so if you find what you like online you can order it and drop in to pick up p, saving on shipping.
