The Fall of Five (Lorien Legacies, Book 4) by Pittacus Lore
The fourth book of the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series! John Smith-Number Four-thought that things would change once he and Nine reunited with the others. But he was wrong. After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being killed, the Garde realize they are drastically unprepared. Now they're hiding out in Nine's Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move. Even with the return of an old ally, these superpowered teens aren't strong enough yet to take on an entire army. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. And when they receive a sign from Number Five-the last missing member of the Garde-they know they are close to all being together finally. But could it be a trap? Time is running out, and the only thing they know for certain is that they have to get to Five before the Mogs do. Michael Bay, director of Transformers, raved: Number Four is a hero for this generation. This epic young adult series is perfect for fans of action-packed science fiction like The Fifth Wave series by Rick Yancey, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. The battle for Earth's survival wages on. Read the rest of the series: #5: The Revenge of Seven, #6: The Fate of Ten, and #7: United as One. Don't miss the first book in the brand-new I Am Number Four spin-off series: Generation One. Editorial Reviews From Booklist For the uninitiated, I Am Number Four (2010), The Power of Six (2011), The Rise of Nine (2012), and the six related novellas may sound like a superfun math series. Fans, though, know just what to expect by now: insanely brave teens, überevil Mogadorian alien invaders, various mystical gadgets, a dash of romantic tension, and lots and lots of explosions. This time out, the mysterious flying Five has been located, and he's a rather peculiar Lorien--can he be trusted? There is a good deal of training with magical powers here, some running around searching for the magical Phoenix Stones, and a fairly refreshing change of pace via chapters from the point of view of regular old human Sam. So how is the series holding up as readable fiction? Well, all right, if it's your cup of tea, though diminishing returns have been the name of the game since the highly enjoyable first volume. By now, though, the series is a James Patterson-style franchise, and with plenty of numbered teens yet to be killed, expect it to keep on bashing along. Grades 7-10. --Daniel Kraus Review PRAISE FOR THE I AM NUMBER FOUR SERIES: Number Four is a hero for this generation. -- Michael Bay, director of Transformers I Am Number Four is a breathless page-turner....So, gear-up sci-fi fans, the battle for Earth is on and there's a new kid in town! -- There's genuine suspense...it's easy to get lost in the world of the sweet teen from another planet. -- Chicago Tribune Terrifically propulsive. -- Booklist Action-packed. -- Publishers Weekly Riveting. -- The Horn Book From the Back Cover I thought things would change when I found the others. We would stop running. We would fight the Mogadorians. And we would win. But I was wrong. Even though we have come together, we barely escaped from the Mogadorians with our lives. And now we're in hiding, trying to figure out our next move. The six of us are powerful-but we're not yet strong enough to take on their entire army. We haven't discovered the full extent of our Legacies. We haven't learned to work together. And there's still so much that we don't know about the Elders or their plan for us. Time is running out, and there's only one thing we know for certain: We need to find Number Five before they do. They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. I am Number Four. I was supposed to be next. But I'm still alive. This battle is far from over.
